Abstract

The aim of this study was to review the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Emotion Regulation Training (ERT) in young adults with GAD and MDD by synthesizing published literature from the indexed literature. The study employs a qualitative case-study approach based on the ABC(DE) framework and Regulatory-Deficit model to examine the role of cognitive restructuring and improved Self-regulation in reducing maladaptive schemas and hopelessness-related suicidality. Results suggest that REBT-induced cognitive flexibility and ERT-induced affect regulation are significant in alleviating distress and threat cue attentional biases. Finally, an integrated policy framework and a clinical heuristic for counseling psychology services in educational and occupational contexts are suggested.
